Apligraf Case Study – Recalcitrant Venous Ulcer

Patient: 78-year-old female

Wound: Venous leg ulcer of 2 years duration; baseline wound area at presentation measured 8.4 cm²

Prior Treatment: Compression; autologous platelet-derived wound healing formula (Procuren®); hyperbaric oxygen

Apligraf Application: Apligraf was applied and the wound was dressed with nonadherent dressing and elastic wrap(Coban™).

Week 3

Noticeable formation of granulation tissue and new tissue at periphery. The area of the wound has decreased in size as wound edge migrates inward.



Week 7

Marked reduction in size and depth of ulcer.



Week 13

Healing process nears completion.



Week 22

Full wound closure and physiologic repair (week 9 of follow-up).
